Divergent
Chapter#1 summary

Beatrice was born into the Abnegation faction, and though her family—mom, dad, slightly older brother Caleb—totally rock the Abnegation lifestyle, Beatrice isn't so great at it.

As a 16-year old, Beatrice will take a test to show what faction she belongs in and then be able to choose her faction. Forever. Without be able to go back.
Beatrice and Caleb take the bus to school, while brave and crazy Dauntless kids take the trains that never stop.
Before the faction aptitude tests, we get to see some kids ignore Beatrice—she doesn't have any friends—or bully her because she belongs to Abnegation.
Abnegation like Beatrice are often given a hard time by those from other factions; she is shoved by an Erudite boy in the hallway who calls her a "Stiff," the nickname the other factions hold for Abnegation members. Before going to class, Beatrice waits at a window and watches the daredevil Dauntless kids jump off a moving train as they arrive, something they do every morning.
The first chapter don't show too much, but I like it. The author want to explain first how the factions are before begin the really story. She use chronological organization.
The Hunger Games

Chapter #1 summary
Katniss Everdeen. The area where she and her family live is called the Seam, and it’s part of District 12. They are at the edge of the district, which is enclosed by a high fence, and Katniss often crawls under the fence and enters the woods outside, where she forages and hunts. Though trespassing in the woods and poaching are illegal, nobody pays attention, and Katniss even sells meat to the Peacekeepers who are supposed to enforce the laws. Most people in the district, she explains, don’t have enough food.

Katniss returns homeone day, and after she gets ready, goes with her mother and Prim to the town square. That’s where the reaping, which is televised and treated like a festive event, takes place in their district.
In the square, the mayor gives a speech that provides the history of the Hunger Games. Struck by droughts, storms, rising seas, and other natural problems, North America essentially dissolved, and the country of Panem rose up in its place. Panem was formed of a Capitol and thirteen districts, but the districts eventually rebelled. The Capitol defeated the districts, with the thirteenth being so badly destroyed that it ceased to exist. To punish the districts and remind them of their powerlessness, the Capitol holds the Hunger Games, in which a male and female “tribute” between twelve and eighteen from each district must fight to the death in a large outdoor arena. The tribute that survives wins, and that tribute’s district receives extra food. Haymitch Abernathy, one of only two people from District 12 to win the Hunger Games and the only one still living, comes out on stage. He is drunk and tries to hug Effie Trinket, a public figure who acts as an escort to District 12’s tributes. Effie Trinket then draws the name of the first tribute: Primrose Everdeen.
In my opinion the first chapter is too tragic, but I love it. I think that the author want to show the condition of the day by day life in any district, before she shows the place where the protagonist go. She use cause/effect organization.

Harry Potter and The Sorcere's Stone

Chapter#1 Summary

The Dursleys are a well-to-do, status-conscious family living in Surrey, England. Eager to keep up proper appearances, they are embarrassed by Mrs. Dursley’s eccentric sister, Mrs. Potter, whom for years Mrs. Dursley has pretended not to know. On his way to work one ordinary morning, Mr. Dursley notices a cat reading a map. He is unsettled, but tells himself that he has only imagined it. Then, as Mr. Dursley is waiting in traffic, he notices people dressed in brightly colored cloaks. Walking past a bakery later that day, he overhears people talking in an excited manner about his sister-in-law’s family, the Potters, and the Potters’ one-year-old son, Harry. Disturbed but still not sure anything is wrong, Mr. Dursley decides not to say anything to his wife. On the way home, he bumps into a strangely dressed man who gleefully exclaims that someone named “You-Know-Who” has finally gone and that even a “Muggle” like Mr. Dursley should rejoice. Meanwhile, the news is full of unusual reports of shooting stars and owls flying during the day.
That night, as the Dursleys are falling asleep, Albus Dumbledore, a wizard and the head of the Hogwarts wizardry academy, appears on their street. He shuts off all the streetlights and approaches a cat that is soon revealed to be a woman named Professor McGonagall (who also teaches at Hogwarts) in disguise. They discuss the disappearance of You-Know-Who, otherwise known as Voldemort. Dumbledore tells McGonagall that Voldemort killed the Potter parents the previous night and tried to kill their  son, Harry, as well, but was unable to. Dumbledore adds that Voldemort’s power apparently began to wane after his failed attempt to kill Harry and that he retreated. Dumbledore adds that the baby Harry can be left on the Dursleys’ doorstep. McGonagall protests that Harry cannot be brought up by the Dursleys. But Dumbledore insists that there is no one else to take care of the child. He says that when Harry is old enough, he will be told of his fate. A giant named Hagrid, who is carrying a bundle of blankets with the baby Harry inside, then falls out of the sky on a motorcycle. Dumbledore takes Harry and places him on the Dursley’s doorstep with an explanatory letter he has written to the Dursleys, and the three part ways.
In my opinion, the first chapter is more like a preview of how things will be. Harry, a magician child who will grow between normal people. I really like the start, because from there, I can see that the Dursleys do not like the idea of having with them Harry and Harry is someone special. It also leaves me with intrigue of what is going to happen.
I observed chronological order. And like I say before in my opinion i think that the author want tho show people a preview of how things will be.

                                                    Beautiful Disaster--Jamie McGuire

    Chapter #1 summary:
Abby, escaping from his father, move with America, her best friend, to a new town. There, forced by America and her boyfriend Shepley, go to a circle of illegal fights where she met Travis Maddox ''Mad Dog" the fighter.  Travis save her from falling when the crowd pushes her around. The next day Travis sits at the end of Abby's table. Travis is the kind of guys who Abby stays away, but apparently Travis get interest in her. She is the only girl who has rejected him. But Abby makes it clear that he has no interest in sleeping with him. Then he tells her that he has no interest in sleeping with her, otherwise to make her his friend. Travis invites her to a pizza where they talk about them self.

In my opinion it is a great beginning, how the protagonists meet. I love the form that the chapter end, when he invited her to a pizza only to talk, when he never do it to another girl before. Travis is that kind of boy that only search for a girl different from the others, who resists from him.

I would advise for this reading the chronological style notes. It is the most easy way.
